10th Advances in Reliability Technology Symposium, Bradford (United Kingdom). 06-08 April 1988

Summary:
This paper considers the application of Monte Carlo simulation techniques to the reliability evaluation of electrical generating systems. It describes the basic concepts and evaluation techniques used. The range of indices, including expected values, standard deviations and frequency distributions, that are evaluated are discussed. The techniques are applied to the IEEE Reliability Test System. Some of the simulation results are compared with those evaluated using analytical methods. Although discussed in terms of power systems, the general concepts and results are equally applicable to other engineering systems.
